Instructor Pre-requisites
Prior to being trained at Inspired Driving Academy’s training center, instructors first need to make sure they meet the basic eligibility requirements. These documents are required to be provided to the Training Center to prove eligibility before any training may be provided.
Affiliation with a Driver Training School
To be eligible for instructor training at a Training Center, an individual must be affiliated with a licensed driver training school. This applies whether the individual is establishing a new school or employed by an existing licensed school. *If you are not currently affliated with a driving school, please APPLY TO BECOME AN INSTRUCTOR with Inspired Driving Academy.
Driving Record
You will need to provide a current official driving abstract from the Ohio BMV. If your driver’s license is issued by another state, the abstract will need to come from that state’s DMV. You must meet the following:
- No more than 4 points within the previous 3 years;
- No more than 2 moving violations within the previous 3 years;
- No more than 2 chargeable crashes within the previous 3 years; and
- No 12-point suspension within the previous 10 years.
Background
You will also need to provide current background checks, both from the state in which you reside and an FBI check. They need to be official. In Ohio, BCI&I will process both the state and FBI checks. If you reside in another state, you will need to have one completed by an official agency in that state.
You may not have a disqualifying offense on your background. If you have a conviction, there is a process you can follow to apply for a response stating whether you may or may not be eligible for the instructor’s license.
