The State of Ohio requires everyone under the age of 18 to take 24 hours of classroom lessons and then eight hours of driving lessons. For additional information visit Ohio BMV. New law effective Sept 31st requires adults under 21 years to complete 24 hours classroom and 8 hours behind the wheel training.
A student may begin classroom sessions when he/she has reached the minimum age of 15 years and five months.
Students do NOT have to have their permit prior to beginning the classroom training.
Instruction for 8 hours of In-Car lessons only. Students will drive for 8 hours Behind-The-Wheel (BTW) with a kind, patient, state-certified instructor in one of our safe, dependable, and clean fleet vehicles.
Four 2-hour lessons will gradually increase in difficulty and skill level as the student’s knowledge, safety, defenses, skills, and understanding of driving increase.
Driving schedules are developed based on each individual student and is dependent upon: the amount of time the student has driven with parent/adult, current level of skill, and permit expiration date. Ideally, lessons will be spaced out at least every 1-2 weeks so that the student has time to practice the new skills before advancing to the next lesson
In-Car lessons begin and end at Inspired Driving Academy: 617 Carle Ave, Lewis Center, OH. Students are responsible for transportation to/from driving lessons.
*School drop off and pick up is available for Olentangy District high schools including: Orange, Berlin, Liberty, Olentangy, DACC, STEM Academy.
Students must have COMPLETED the 24-hours of classroom instruction PRIOR to beginning In Car lessons. If the student completes an Online class then he/she must provide the Certificate of Completion prior to his/her first In Car lesson. Students who complete the 24 hours of classroom lessons at Inspired Driving Academy will have priority booking options for In Car Lessons.
Students can enroll for In Cars prior to completing the online course, however, the Certificate of Completion is required at the first drive.
Students must have their driving permit with them EVERY drive. They should arrive at least 10 mins before the scheduled drive time and wear tennis shoes.
Students should bring a notebook, writing instrument, and cooperative attitude. Students should arrive to class at least 5 mins early. Students may bring snacks/drinks.
Classroom Instruction: Lessons will cover all required topics outlined in the State of Ohio’s Driver Training Curriculum. Classes are taught by experienced educators who are fully trained and licensed. Educational material is taught using hands-on techniques, videos, handouts, small group projects, games, and guest speakers.
At the completion of the course, students will be administered the required Ohio’s Driver Trainer exam. As per state law, students must pass the exam with at least a 75% in order to receive the Certificate of Completion. Students may take the test up to three times prior to re-enrolling.
